HERE'S TO THE NEXT UBR NIGHT!

The UBR night at The Fly wasn't the first time I'd been involved behind-the-scenes in putting on an event on New Oxford Street, as I've previous experience in running parties and DJing at what is one of London's most acclaimed live music venues. So it's fair to say that when I arrived for the UBR showcase I thought I knew what to expect...
and how wrong I was! From the moment I walked in there was a really positive atmosphere, with people meeting and greeting each other with
confidence, happily swapping cards and demo CDs.So to the bands, up first where Action Force from Leicester. A very impressive group who set the tone for the night perfectly with their upbeat rock/ electro style. In between groups it was really great to see people coming up to me and telling me all about their bands; there was definitely that interest and motivation for people to come out and be part of something new.The second band to perform where Minus IQ, with their debut album 'Home Cinema' currently setting blogs alight amidst a flurry of industry interest. Lead singer Charlie was great,standing up on the speakers and beckoning the crowd forward to dance. One thing was certain - This wasn't a standard industry showcase with punters getting bored at the back, everyone was going mental and jumping around!The final band to perform were I Call Shotgun, a Leeds-based electronic/ indie outfit. Again with a great frontman, Joe De Luca, this band really took the energy in the room to another level, with people (literally) hanging from the rafters!Aside from the bands' performances, what was also really great on the night was the presence of small independent music TV companies, Littlehouse TV and also MusioMusic TV, ensuring that the UBR experience didn't remain exclusive to those who were there, but would soon be online for the whole world to see. Here's to the next UBR Live night!

Experience summary:

When I was 12 I saved up my paper round money and bought myself some turntables and a mixer.

After a couple of years practicing I decided to leave my bedroom and get some DJ gigs, so I sent mixtapes to local radio stations, and made flyers with my name on.

Now if you listen to NME Radio you can hear my show every Saturday night.

During the week I run radio promotions at Listen Up, delivering new bands/ artists to radio stations all over the world.

I also throw parties, book DJs and make re-edits of tracks on my laptop, and have been the official tour DJ for the Channel 4 TV show ‘Skins' for two years.

Career highlight to date...

Once when I was in Ibiza some mates and I went to the world's biggest club Privilege. I ended up on the decks DJing in front of 10,000 people. (And rocked it!)
